Hello! I love getting crisp, clean lines when I’m stenciling, but sometimes allowing those lines to blur and melt into each other can create some really beautiful effects. I was working with the Layered Celebration Cake Stencil from A Colorful Life Designs, and while I was originally going for a clean look, things got a little messy so I leaned into it, and I am so much happier with the end result, than if I would have stuck to my original plan.

I started by using Catherine Pooler Inks on the cake. I used Icing on the Cake, Orange Peel, Tiara, Be Mine, Juniper Mist, and Hot Tub. I decided I wanted some shine, so I used Tainted Love Teal Magicals from Lindy’s Gang (use my coupon code for 10% off: P6GKPI07KTCTAV) on the other cake layers. I went a little heavy on the water, and the color started to bleed under the stencil, but I liked how it effected the brown layer, especially since Catherine Pooler Inks are water reactive.

I loosely fussy cut the cake out after it was dry. I decided to use some patterned paper behind it, so I found a floral from Spellbinders’ Just Sayin’ 6×6 Paper Pad that worked perfectly. Putting the cake right on top of it was a bit too busy, so I fussy cut a layer of pink paper to go in between the cake and the floral. My sentiment is also from Spellbinders and can be found HERE. Last, I added some Luminous White Card Bling from A Colorful Life Designs.

I wish you could see the shine from the Tainted Love Teal Magicals. It is so pretty. I think the bleeding of color really works with the painterly vibe of the florals.
