Hello! I always save all of my monoprints and roll-off prints to be used at a later date. Even if something comes out really terrible (it happens!) or there aren’t enough layers to a print, I save it. Today’s card is a print that had the beginnings of a great print, but it wasn’t enough to stand on it’s own.

You may recognize the Random Triangles stencil from A Colorful Life Designs from THIS post I made earlier in the month. But let’s talk about that print in the background first. I used Wild Honey, Peacock Feathers, and Picked Raspberry Distress Inks on my Gel Press. I rolled the colors out with my small Tim Holtz brayer, and sprayed it with some water. There wasn’t a whole lot of ink on the Plate, and I wound up with this splotchy, uneven print. Again, not super amazing, but had lots of potential.
I used Peacock Feathers, this time as an Oxide, with the stencil. It didn’t stand out enough for me, so I drew and scribbled on top of them with a Violet Posca pen. Then, I inked the edges with Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide. On top of this, I added my sentiment. It’s a (discontinued) die from Simon Says Stamp and CZ Design. I die cut the shadow layer out of a yellow cardstock, but it didn’t stand out enough, so I inked the edges with Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide. I had hoped it wouldn’t go so green (yellow + blue = green) because I used the Oxide, but it did. I’m okay with it. I could have used some blue embossing powder on top, but I didn’t want to add any texture. Last, I added some Satin Matte Lemon Yellow Card Bling from A Colorful Life Designs.
When you’re not happy with a background, just add more layers. If you think a background is missing something, add more layers. Building up layers adds interest, can hide things we don’t like, and create a complexity you just can’t get any other way. This card isn’t complicated, but I was able to work with something that had little wow factor and make it look cooler.
