Greetings! I’ve got a Halloween card to share today that uses the new Tim Holtz and Sizzix Vault Fright Night die set. I’d like to give a big thank you to Scrapbook.com, who sent me this and 2 other sets from the Vault Collection. This set has so many fun dies, you will have a blast with it if you choose to grab a set for yourself.

I am just crazy about the ghosts in this set, and I knew I needed they to be the focus of my card. I die cut them out of vellum and set them aside to work on my background. For that, I used Eggplant, Monsoon, Cobalt, and Pitch Black Alcohol Inks from Ranger and Tim Holtz. I kept an area in the upper right lighter, and worked the darker colors around it to create a moonlight effect. Having the Air Blower to move the inks around is essential.
Next, I die cut more parts of the scene. I cut the tombstones twice out of black, and twice out of gray cardstock, the clouds were cut from vellum, and the moon a lighter gray. The cardstocks are all from My Color Cardstock. I used a Mini Ink Blending Tool to sweep some Lost Shadow Distress Oxide across the tops of the tombstones for a moonlit glow and then I adhered the gray layer with Scrapbook.com foam tape.
I used one of the sentiments from the Tiny Frights stamp set with VersaMark Ink and Hero Arts’ White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder. Vellum is notoriously tricky to adhere because of it’s translucency. Adhesive pretty much always shows so you often need to use tricks to hide it. My ghosts gave me a run for my money. I didn’t mind seeing the alcohol ink background through them too much, because, well, ghosts are supposedly transparent, right? But one of the ghosts just had too much of the alcohol ink showing. So I die cut another set, rounded their shape a bit, and used Collage Medium to adhere just the heads and arms. The rest is floating, so they’re dimensional. They look so much better now, especially with the dimension from rounding them. I added silver embossing powder to the edges of my white card base, and popped my scene up with Scrapbook.com’s 3mm foam tape.
It took a little time to get there with the issues I had with the vellum, but I am so thrilled with how it came out. Those ghosts crack me up! I just love them. I can’t wait to use them again. Please be sure to visit Scrapbook.com to see the entire new Halloween collection from Tim Holtz and Sizzix. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
