Hello! Today I’ve got a fun non-traditional Christmas card featuring a fun technique that can help you use up some of the pattern paper that’s in your stash. I love the bold look of the Multi Chevron stencil from A Colorful Life Designs, and I knew it would be perfect for this technique.

I wanted to use some paper from Doodlebug’s Winter Wonderland paper pad, but I didn’t want the snowflakes to be the focus. I decided to use Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide on top of the patterned paper with the Multi Chevron stencil. Oxides have a pigment property to them, which makes them opaque, so I got great coverage of the pattern where I inked it, making the paper more subtle. I wanted a focal image, so I colored a unicorn from The Greeting Farm’s Unicorn Dreams stamp set with Zigs. To ground her, I cut out 2 hexagons using Waffle Flower’s Hexagon Dies once with another patterned paper and once with plain teal cardstock.
Using the same teal cardstock and some purple, I die cut “merry” 3 times. This is from an old Honey Bee Stamps die cut set. I inked up my card base with Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide because it went to well with the teal cardstock. For sparkle, I grabbed a discontinued Sparkle Blend and added a few sequins.
This came out so cute! I really love the effect of breaking up that patterned paper with a stencil, and that unicorn is seriously adorbs. There is a HUGE BOGO sale happening starting today at A Colorful Life Designs. It’s running from 12/2/22-12/4/22, so don’t miss out!
