Double Foiling Technique

Uncategorized

30 Apr

Hello! I am seriously stoked to share today’s card with you. I love using the Deco Foil from Therm O Web. It’s pretty easy to work with, the colors are fantastic, and there are plenty of techniques you can do with them. I am a member of the Therm O Web Craft Room on FB, and I was lucky to win some foils and their Transfer Gel Duo last month. My goodies arrived, so I had to play. I had a lightbulb moment while searching through my stencils to see which ones I wanted to use. Many of us have layering stencils in our stash, but I had never seen anyone use them with only foils. Take a look at what I made…

Now, I’ve used layering stencils with foils before. I’ve even got a YouTube video with a project that you can check out HERE. But I have not seen anyone try to use only foils with layering stencils. I was really curious about how it would look and if it would work. I grabbed the Monstera Layering Stencils from Erin Lee Creative and applied the Transfer Gel Duo from Therm O Web through the first layer of the stencil. I let that layer dry for a few hours, then I heated up my laminator and ran the panel through it with the Spring Green Deco Foil layered on top. It came out fabulous.

Now it was time to experiment. I added the top stencil (there are only 2 in this set) to my foiled panel and once again used the Transfer Gel Duo. I had to play the waiting game a second time to wait for the paste to dry. Once it was (and the stuff just stays tacky…it never fully dries so that the foil will stick to it), I laid the Jade Deco Foil on top and ran it through the hot laminator. I held my breath a little when I did the “peel and reveal.” But then….I saw how awesome it looked! It worked absolutely perfectly and I was thrilled with the results! There is SO much shine on this card and it is really hard to photograph. But look at how cool it looks! I am so excited to try this with other layering stencils.

I kept the rest of the card super simple. I layered some craft foam under the top panel to give it just a little lift and I kept my card base white (I know…it’s a shocker). I die cut a simple sentiment from Pinkfresh Studio’s Classic Words Die Set with a jade green cardstock and vellum.

I’m crazy abou this card and how well my little experiment worked. Now I have to try this with other color combos and other layering stencils. I hope you’ll give it a try too! And be sure to join the Therm O Web Craft Room on FB to check out other fun foiled projects and contests. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!
