Greetings! I have a Halloween card to share that uses a stencil that was intended for Winter. The new Flake Explosion stencil from A Colorful Life Designs reminded me of lightning or electricity. I thought it would be great to use for Halloween with a Tim Holtz stamp set I bought last year.

I took a piece of Scrapbook.com’s Black Mixed Media Paper and temporarily adhered the stencil to it. Then I inked it with Electric Green Radiant Neon Ink from Imagine. It looked cool, but needed more of a punch, so I heat embossed it with Neon Green embossing powder from Brutus Monroe. The pictures don’t show just how bold the color is, but it truly is neon.
For my focal layer, I grabbed the witch, cauldron, and a sentiment from Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous’ Tiny Frights stamp set. I used the same black mixed media paper as before, inked the stamps with VersaMark ink, and heat set them with white embossing powder. I used my Tonic Deckle Trimmer to make the edges of that layer more interesting, then I inked and embossed it with the same Electric Green ink and powder. I popped the layer up with Black Foam Tape from Therm O Web, then added a few Card Bling sequins in Crystal Iris Mystic Meadow from A Colorful Life Designs.
I really wish you could see how neon this is. It’s cooler in person, but I think it looks great in these photos too. This would be fun to remake with different colors. Say, a purple version…maybe a bold yellow version… Please head over to the A Colorful Life Designs website to see the thousands of available stencils. You can use my code, AlFan10 to save 10%.
