Greetings! I typically work with A2 sized cards, which is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2.” But the Spellbinders St. Nick die set is so big, I knew I wanted to make a 5″ x 7″ card. While you can crop St. Nick down, I really wanted to use him in his entirety. Plus, it gave me the opportunity to really play with awesome Argyle Plaid Embossing Folder. I seriously love this folder.

Die cutting St. Nick is pretty straightforward. I went simple and used colored cardstock, with no additional inking, save for a few highlighting lines done with my Uniball Signo White Gel Pen. There’s also a fun tree in this die set, that I’ll use another time.
For the Argyle Plaid, I knew I wanted to use it a couple of times on the card, but I didn’t want it to be overpowering. I first took a piece of pink paper from Scrapbook.com’s 6×8 Floral Paper Pad and inked the embossing folder with Lumberjack Plaid Distress Ink and ran it through my die cut machine. That looked god, but it needed more. So I swiped white pigment ink across the surface to highlight the highest points, then sprinkled white embossing powder on top of that and heat set it. This really made that layer stand out.
Behind it, I just took simple black cardstock and ran the folder through my die cut machine. This was the perfect back layer and still gives plenty of texture. My sentiment is from Nichol Spohr’s Needlework Sentiments and matted with more black cardstock. I opted to keep my card base white, for once.
This St. Nick is so grand, I love how easy it was to put him together. I really want to do a version of him in a deep green coat. And that plaid! You can expect to see me use it often. I love that it’s on a diagonal. Please visit the Spellbinders site to see all of the latest products. Thanks for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!
