Hello! I saved what is one of my favorite cards of the month for the end. I used the Broad Swashes stencil from A Colorful Life Designs and added some cool embellishments to make a card that’s good for almost anyone….they just need to not hate cicadas.

I started off with a Gel Press monoprint that had a mix of copper and other patina colors. There wasn’t much by way of pattern on it, so I knew that using this stencil would be just what it needed. I applied VersaFine Clair in Pinecone with a cosmetic sponge through the stencil and then heat embossed it with the old Clear Bark embossing Powder from Stampendous. This is a 6×9 stencil so I was able to make 2 panels at once for cards. Next I stamped out the cicada from the Entomology stamp set from Tim Holtz & Stampers Anonymous and heat embossed it with black. Then I watercolored it with Freaky Frankenlime Magicals from the Haunted Halloween collection from Lindy’s Gang (use code P6GKPI07KTCTAV to save 10% in their shop). I used the coordinating die to cut the cicada out.
I then chose a couple of patterned papers from Uniquely Creative’s Industrial Edge collection. I used it for my Everyday Foliage Die and my sentiment strip. The sentiment is from Tim Holtz & Stampers Anonymous’ Noteworthy set. The tag is from Uniquely Creative’s Creative Cuts and I added some twine through the hole. I inked my card base with Antique Linen Distress Ink.
I know this card may not be everyone’s cup of tea because of the cicada, but it can easily be replaced with something else. I happen to love using bug imagery on my work.
