Luxe Border Birthday Card

Hello! My card today uses the gorgeous Luxe Backdrop and Border 3D Emboss and Cut Folder from Spellbinders. You may have seen me use the Backdrop portion of this folder before. If not, you can check it out HERE. But today, I am only using the Border portion of the folder, along with the coordinating die.

Seriously, look at the detail and dimension you get from that folder! I sprinkled some Tibetan Poppy Teal Magicals from the Autumn Leaves collection from Lindy’s Gang. This highly pigmented shimmer powder reacts with water, so I spritzed my folder with some and then added my Strathmore Smooth Bristol Cardstock to it and ran it through my die cut machine with the die in place so it embossed and cut all in one step. The result was a stunning embossed teal border.

I let it dry and decided I wanted to enhance the embossed image. So I gently swiped over the top of the piece with Twilight VersaFine Clair Ink. This really brought out the dimension and details of the embossing. What’s really interesting though, is that the ink sunk down into the cardstock and the shimmer remained on top. So I didn’t lose any of the shine from the Magicals!

I cut a piece of navy cardstock down to 4″ x 5 1/4″ for my bottom layer. Then I inked the edges of that with Turquoise Gem VersaMagic Ink. It created a soft, chalky finish that looks so dreamy. Then, using Simon Hurley and Spellbinders’ Handwritten Sentiments, I die cut “happy birthday” out of teal velum and the same navy cardstock I used for the bottom layer. I painted some more of the Tibetan Poppy Teal on my card base and edged it with Twilight Ink. I popped up the embossed border with craft foam.

I love the dimension and texture of this card. the embossed Luxe Border is so detailed, and really stands out against the smooth navy cardstock.
