Hello! Each month, A Colorful Life Designs releases a brand new stencil at a special sale price on the 15th. How are we already past the 15th? Anyway, this month’s special release is called Not Quite Stripes, and it’s a really cool one! It’s perfect for those of us that love the look of mark making, but are a bit intimidated to do it ourselves. This looks hand-drawn, so it’s perfect when you just need to add a little something extra to your projects.
On a 3×5 Gel Press print that didn’t have too much going on, I used VersaMark Ink through the stencil. Then I used a hematite embossing powder on top, which gave it a cool metallic shine. I tore the edges of the panel to expose the white paper. For the layer behind that, I used some Kraft cardstock and ran it through my die cut machine with an old Seth Apter embossing folder called Laser Beams. I used my small Tim Holtz brayer to roll on Walnut Stain Distress Ink, to make the embossed design stand out. I trimmed the panel with my Deckle Trimmer.
I dug through some of my Halloween Ephemera packs from Tim Holtz and came up with the butterfly and tag. On the tag I heat embossed a “hello” from Erin Lee Creative and I mounted the butterfly with foam squares so it was popped up. Since I tore the edges of my monoprint, I thought that for once, I’d leave my card base white. But, it was too plain, so I flicked on some Rich Cocoa Fireworks! Spray from Imagine. It adds interest and shimmer.
I really like the collage feel of this one. I could have added a bunch more layers, but I didn’t want to take away from the Not Quite Stripes stenciled layer. I saw what some of the other Design Team members from A Colorful Life Designs did, and several of us went for an orange, kinda tribal look, which I thought was so interesting. You can see them all in the A Colorful Life Designs Fans FB Group. And be sure to visit the shop so you can grab this stencil while it’s on sale.
