Hello! If you’ve followed me for a while, you probably know I have a ton of patterned paper and lots of fun Gel Press monoprints. I love combining them together with other products (like stencils!) to make collage-style, mixed media cards. I chose to use the Star Ring stencil from A Colorful Life Designs today, with lots of layers.

I had a cool monoprint I wanted to work with that was made with punchinella, fluid acrylics, and some texture tools. It has a great golden shine that I really like. I took the Star Ring and used a Matte Black Embossing Paste to apply it to the Gel Press print. After it dried, I trimmed it with my Tonic Deckle Trimmer. Then I pulled out a bunch of neutral patterned papers from my stash and tried to find a few that I thought worked well together. The key to this is pattern size and color. Of course, you want the colors to work well together, but beyond that, you want your patterns to be of varying sizes and shapes to make it look interesting and not confusing or busy. I’ve got an older YouTube video HERE that goes over this further.
You can see the sheen on that monoprint in the photo above. I needed a sentiment, so I grabbed the “Hey Boo” from Ellen Hutson and just cut the “hey” from striped paper. I mounted it onto a couple of hexagons I cut out using Waffle Flower’s Nesting Hexagon Dies. To top things off, I added some champagne colored sequins from Doodles Paper Playground (now closed) and I inked the edges of my white card base with Antique Linen Distress Oxide.
This type of card is really my jam. I get to play with a bunch of products, use up scraps, and just have fun playing. I hope you like it too.
