A Blissful Day

Uncategorized

8 May

Hello! I have really been enjoying using focal dies in combination with stencils to create some funky cards lately. In the past, I really only used colored in stamped images, but with some of the dies I’ve acquired lately, the things I’m making has sifted to less colored elements and many more dies. Today, I’m using some of the room dies from My Favorite Things with a very cool stencil from A Colorful Life Designs, called Cosmos.

To start off, I grabbed some poster board paper from Dollar Tree. This is the same stuff I use for my alcohol inks. It’s inexpensive, and works well. Plus, you can do fun techniques with Distress Oxides too. I did some ink smooshing with Squeezed Lemonade, Saltwater Taffy, and Ripe Persimmon. The slight sheen of the poster board paper makes the Oxides look really interesting. It almost gives a look of ceramic, without being super shiny. After the smooshing was done, I laid the Cosmos stencil on top (this is a big 6×9 stencil) and inked it with Lumberjack Plaid Distress Oxide. For shine, I splattered on some Sheer Shimmer Spritz from Imagine in Copper.

Next it was time for die cutting. I used the couch, pillow, and blanket from MFT’s Take a Seat Die-namics, which were all cut from assorted scraps of patterned paper. Because this was all paper, and not cardstock, I cut a second of each die out of white cardstock for added stability and a bit of dimension. Next, I cut out a plant and it’s pot from the Potted Plants Die-namics set. In addition, I cut a thin strip of brown cardstock, which I inked a bit with VersaMagic ink in Cloud White, for a floor. I used my stenciled piece like an area rug, and I had it take up a good portion of the card, so that it was more of the focus. My sentiment is from a Clearly Besotted set called Peaceful Plushies and was stamped with VersaFine Clair Ink in Fallen Leaves.

I know I’ve said it before, but working with these MFT dies, along with the stencils from A Colorful Life Designs is so much fun. I hope you’re not tired of seeing these types of cards, because I have plenty of other dies that I still need to use.
