Hello! My favorite stencils from the March release from A Colorful Life Designs have a botanical vibe to them. I did my Faux Cyanotype technique with two of them, and today I’m sharing something different with the 3rd. This stencil is called Spring Foliage, and it’s 6×9.

I started off with a piece of Strathmore Smooth Bristol Cardstock and sprayed it with Distress Oxide Sprays in Villainous Potion, Salvaged Patina, and Crackling Campfire. After it dried, I chose the area of the stencil I wanted to work with. I sprayed the back of it with Pixie Spray from Therm O Web, as some of the areas would move pretty easily while inking on top of them if I wasn’t careful. The Pixie Spray holds everything in place. I inked over the whole thing with Salty Ocean Distress Ink, and around the perimeter with Chipped Sapphire.

I really wanted the stenciled area to appear as though it was hovering over the background. I went in with two Copics, B39 & B45, and created shadows on the right side of the negative spaces. I went back and forth with the colors a bit to get a good shadow. I was worried at first that I might damage my Copics, but since the Distress line is water-based, I figured it would be fine. I didn’t see that any ink transferred to my tip either.
I needed some metallic elements, so I splattered the background with Show Stopper Copper from Lindy’s Gang. Use THIS link to shop, and my coupon code P6GKPI07KTCTAV to save 10%! The shine is insane! I also added some white highlights using a Posca Pen. I chose an old sentiment from Sassy & Crafty (no longer in business), stamped it on vellum with VersaMark Ink, and heat embossed it with Garnet embossing powder from Stampendous. The color worked really well with the bottom layer of my background.

This card feels like it’s from a magical forest…it’s kind of fairy-like. I love it. It’s one of my favorite cards from 2023 so far.
