Hello! I’m Alison Heikkila and I am really happy you stopped by today. This month, I was asked to be a Guest Designer for the Stay Crafty with Hero Challenge Blog. I was thrilled when I was asked. This challenge blog is run by the Hero Arts Design Team. The challenge this month is “Hip to Be Square.” I tried to really think outside the box (pun intended) for this one!

I used Hero Arts’ Ornate Carousel for this card. I have always enjoyed doing the “spotlight coloring” technique, where you color only in the confines of a specific shape. Normally, I only have only one area colored in, but I thought it would be fun to have many squares colored.
I die cut a square piece of cardstock, and traced around it in various places that I wanted to highlight with color. Then, using my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens and some Starry Colors on the stars. I erased my pencil lines when I was finished coloring everything in. I inked the edges of my white card base with Seedless Preserves Distress Ink.
The spotlight coloring technique is a great way to breathe new life into your stamps. You can use any shape you want, though I find that basic shapes are the most effective. I’ll have another project for the Hip to Be Square challenge from Stay Crafty with Hero later this month. I went a completely different route with that card, so I hope you’ll come back to check it out. In the meantime, you should join the challenge this month. Thank you so much for your kind words!
