Greetings! It is officially my favorite day of the year! But to be perfectly honest, this hasn’t been the best October. I’ve been pretty sick with asthma, I haven’t had much time to do any of the crafting that I wanted to do, and I really didn’t get to create too many Halloween projects this year. However, I am thinking I may just try to make at least 1 Halloween project each month, so that I have plenty of things for next year. And I’d like to focus on Mixed Media items, so that I can use them for decorations. But for today, I at least have a new card to share with you.
I really love the Witching You stamp from Stampendous, which you may have noticed since I used it earlier this month. I decided to work with it again, but to incorporate some stencils this time. Over the weekend, I scored a great deal on Gelatos so I played with a bunch to create my background.
I started off by randomly rubbing my Gelatos on to cardstock that I primed with white gesso. The colors I used were Iced Currant, Blood Orange, Mango, Lemon, and a touch of a metallic purple that has no name on it (I had gotten that one years ago in a kit). I spritzed the cardstock and smudged the colors with my fingers. Then I laid my first stencil on, which was the circular background from Kaisercraft’s Grunge stencil. I took a microfiber cloth and rubbed it on top of the wet gelatos and removed a lot of the color. Then, I applied some of the Iced Currant Gelatos to my craft mat and spritzed it with water. I mixed it up with a brush and then applied it through the cross stencil that is also from the Grunge set. I’d like to mention that these stencils are a set of 4 on one large 12″ x 12″ sheet. I cut them apart to make them a more manageable 6″ x 6.” I added a couple of thin layers of the water/Gelatos mixture until I achieved the look I was going for. Then I laid down the Ocean Wave stencil from Uniquely Creative in the corners and rubbed some of the metallic purple through it. Then I wet it with my brush and got a cool textured look from it.
After the Gelatos were dry, I added a thin layer of matte medium to be sure the Gelatos were sealed. Then I stamped the largest border from Stampendous’ Elegant Borders stamp set with VersaFine Clair Ink in Nocturne. I purposely didn’t ink the image too well so that it looked old and worn. Next I added my sentiment and then I inked up the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I really enjoyed combining these stencils on this background. Using the Gelatos was easy and a lot of fun. I have pre-primed a bunch of cardstock so that when I have a little time to play, I am ready to go. You can get the stamps, stencils, and inks that I used on today’s card over at White Rose Crafts.
