Aloha! I have a bold card to share today that uses two of this month’s Club Kits from Spellbinders. When I think of the word “tropical,” bright colors come to mind, so that’s what I wanted to use today. But, I also didn’t want to spend a lot of time ink blending, so I used a couple of my favorite tricks to get a vibrant background quickly.

One of the ways I get colorful inky backgrounds quickly is to use a multicolored ink pad like Kaleidacolor Inks from Imagine. This color story is called Spectrum. To create the backgrounds quickly and with hardly any physical effort (to save my muscles and joints), I apply the ink colors directly to my Gel Press. I blend them a bit with my brayer, then I pull a print with my cardstock. I repeat this a few times to get the intensity of color that I’m after, but it is so easy and again, doesn’t hurt my body the way regular ink blending could.
After that, I ran the panel through my die cut machine with the Embossing Folder of the Month, called Pineapple Pop. I felt that the pineapples weren’t standing out enough, so I carefully inked over them with Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink. I got some ink on the main body of the panel, but because I kept doing it, it looks purposeful.

I love the big “Aloha” that’s in the Large Die Of the Month (Tropical Blooms). The font is so pretty, I wish I had an entire alphabet of it. I die cut it from white and blue cardstock. Then, I created a hibiscus flower with some foliage for underneath it. I used some Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide to ink up the center of my flower. I kept my card base white to work with the sentiment. It gives the card a clean look, even though the background has a bit of grunge to it.

These colors make me happy and they really give me tropical vibes. Please visit Spellbinders to see all of this month’s Club Kits. Some past Kits are available on their site too. Thanks for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
