Hello there! I haven’t made an eclipse card in a while, so I decided to make one using the Lines and Dots Stencil from A Colorful Life Designs. If you don’t know what an eclipse card is, here’s a good definition: An eclipse card is when you cut a word or image (but usually a word) out of a decorated card front and then use foam pads to “raise” that cutout above the level of the rest of the card front, for a subtle dimensional effect.

I stared off with a gel print I made. It was made with acrylic paints and you can see how nice that Lines and Dots Stencil looks. I didn’t want to cover any of it up with my sentiment, so integrating it into the card with the eclipse technique was perfect.

My sentiment was made with Tim Holtz’s Bold Text #1 Die Set. I like how clean the letters are, and that they’re easy to stack. I cut the sentiment from 1 layer of black, 2 layers of brown, and 1 layer of white cardstock in addition to the top layer. This way, if you look at the card from the side or at an angle, you see these fun layers that add an unexpected touch to the card. I left the card base white.

I love how subtle the sentiment is, and how cool the monoprint looks. Have you made an eclipse card before?
