Hello! There are a lot of ocean-themed stencils in this month’s release from A Colorful Life Designs, and today I used the Layered Seaweed 6×9 stencil, along with some fun die cuts. This was all colored with Distress Inks, using a variety of fun techniques.

I created the water first, using Tumbled Glass and a bit of Mermaid Lagoon Distress Inks. I applied the Tumbled Glass in a diagonal motion, to give the effect of light streaming through the water. The Mermaid Lagoon was focused on the outer edges. Then I applied the Layered Seaweed across the bottom of the panel using Rustic Wilderness and Twisted Citron Distress Inks. I also sprinkled and heat set some Salvaged Patina Distress Embossing Glaze here and there to give the water some shine.
I had some scraps of cardstock that I had ink smooshed various colors of Distress Inks on. I used parts of them for other projects, but I had enough leftover to die cut my Whittle Jellyfish from Poppystamps (no longer available). I added a bit of Picked Raspberry in some spots to make them stand out more. The other scrap I used had darker, coral colors on it, and I thought it was perfect for the Picture Book Starfish from Simon Says Stamp (also no longer available). I added a simple sentiment from the Oh, Bite Me stamp set from A Colorful Life Designs, which I stamped with Twilight VersaFine Clair Ink.
I love how you can get such different looks from one type of ink pad. And this is really just scratching the surface of what they can do. I think the water is pretty effective, and the colors are all so pretty together. Please be sure to visit A Colorful Life Designs to see the many, many stencils they have to offer.
