Painted Pencil Butterflies

Hello! I’m so excited to bring you today’s project. Today, there is a new collection from Sizzix and 49 & Market that has been released. It’s a beautiful collection featuring butterflies, foliage, and splatter imagery that I really love. This collection was given to me by Scrapbook.com so that I can make project samples for them. Today’s card is the first that I created.

I was really inspired by the colors on the packaging, so that was my jumping off point. Using a piece of Scrapbook.com’s Mixed Media Smooth Cardstock in white, I ink smooshed Distress Inks in Twisted Citron, Kitsch Flamingo, and Peacock Feathers. I let that dry off to the side.

Next, I used a second piece of the Mixed Media Cardstock and ink smooshed the same colors, but this time with Distress Oxides. The Distress Inks dried back a bit lighter, and I wanted the unique layering that Oxides give for all of the butterflies so that they’d stand out against the background. Once that panel dried, I used VersaFine Clair Ink in Chianti to stamp the butterflies. I die cut them with their coordinating dies in my pink Sizzix Switch. I arranged them on the background and adhered them into place.

The sentiment is from the Hello You Sentiment set, which is from this same new collection. I used Chianti again to stamp. I wanted a little sparkle, so I grabbed the Scrapbook.com Glitter Brush in Pretty Pink and colored in the “you.” I loved how that looked, so I used the same Glitter Brush on my card base around the perimeter.

I think this came out so pretty. I love that the colors are vibrant, yet soft. Each butterfly is so unique, because of the ink smooshing done to color them.
