Eek! Did you hear something? I think it’s coming from the trees….oh no! Look out! It’s a scare bear!
When I first saw the new Skinny Tree stencil from A Colorful Life Designs, I knew I wanted to use it to create a forest. Then I decided, it would be a creepy forest, where scary things could be lurking.

I grabbed some light mossy green cardstock and inked up the Skinny Tree stencil several times with Distress Oxides in Rustic Wilderness and Vintage Photo . I inked it on both sides, to alter the look of the trees. I cut them out and set them aside. For the background, I cut a piece of Smooth Bristol Cardstock from Strathmore to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2.” Then I ink blended with Distress Inks in Twisted Citron, Rustic Wilderness, and Black Soot. I was going for an eerie green glow. I hand cut a sloping ground with brown cardstock and gave it a dappled look by going directly to the cardstock with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. The texture of the felt pad can create some great effects.
I grabbed the Scare Bears (retired) stamp set from Clearly Besotted and colored in the Michael Myers-type bear. I altered him slightly and gave him a shirt, and colored the stamped image with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens. I glued down my ground, my trees and my little bear with Bearly Arts Glue. I wanted a sentiment, but I wanted to keep it subtle and creepy. I used sentiments from the retired Scaredy Cat set which is also from Clearly Besotted. I stamped “never fear” with Rain Forest VersaFine Clair Ink on the green area, and “you’re not alone” with Fallen Leaves VersaFine Clair Ink on the ground. You can see it, but it’s not super pronounced, which is just what I wanted.
I love how this came out. It’s funny because it’s a bear, it’s creepy…because Mike Myers, and it just looks cool with that weird green glow.
