Hello! I have a really fun mixed media card to share today using the new Crumpled Checks stencil from A Colorful Life Designs. As soon as I saw this stencil, I knew I wanted to make an Alice in Wonderland themed card, so that’s what I did.

I gessoed a piece of paper from an old science textbook. I painted it roughly to give the paper some texture. Then I applied Black and Earl Grey Gelatos on top, spritzed them with water, and blended the colors with my finger. After they dried, I laid the stencil on top, and wiped away the negative spaces with a baby wipe. The Crumpled Checks stencil is a 6×9, so I was able to make two panels from this. Next, I colored the Alice in Wonderland stamp from Visible Image with Copic Markers and fussy cut her out. I used colors that were more my style, as opposed to the typical blonde hair and blue dress portrayal of Alice.
Next I started die cutting elements into my stenciled panel and from various scraps of cardstock, using Tim Holtz’s Abstract Elements dies. For more interest, I sprinkled neon pink and neon green embossing powders from Brutus Monroe in a few spots and heat set them from underneath. I didn’t use VersaMark Ink so the powder would have just blown away if I heated it from above. I arranged Alice and my die cuts on the panel, and added a Halloween Clippings Sticker from Tim Holtz. On my card base, I used my Tim Holtz brayer to apply Peacock Feathers and Twisted Citron Distress Ink.
I love how this card came out. It’s got lots of texture and cool things to look at, and the colors are so vibrant, especially against that black and white-ish background.
