Greetings! I’ve got two cards to share with you today. The stenciled backgrounds I made were some the same piece of paper, that I cut in half to make two cards. That’s the beauty of working with the 6 x 9 stencils from A Colorful Life Designs! I used the new Bold Diamonds stencil for this, and I wound up with a warm-toned card and a cool-toned card. I’d love to know which you prefer.

I started off with a piece of gessoed science paper. You can see some of the drawings on the yellow areas. I applied a rainbow of Gelatos across the paper. I used Iced Currant, Mango, Lemon, Blueberry, Lime, and Raspberry. Then I laid my stencil on top of the paper and used a baby wipe to remove the color from the negative spaces. I’ve done this in a YouTube video before, which you can check out HERE. After that, I sealed the panel with Krylon Matte Finish Spray Sealer. This protects the Gelatos and keeps them from moving.
Because I used a sealer, I am more limited with what mediums I can use on top of my panel. After I cut it in half, I decided it would be fun to make them almost exactly the same, so what I did to one panel, I did to the other, though I altered the colors on each to better coordinate with the stenciled sheet.
I applied Spiced Chai StazOn to the warm panel and Plum StazOn to the cool. I also used the Grains stencil from A Colorful Life with gold and silver embossing paste for texture and shine. I scribbled on both with a black Sharpie.
I die cut with Annie’s Alphabet from Stamp Anniething 4 times so that I could get a focal layer and shadow layer for each “hiya” on the cards. The purple layer was inked with Seedless Preserves Distress Ink. Because the focal layer has been sealed, you can’t use regular dye or pigment ink on them. I wanted to add additional color to the edge, so I used Spiced Chai StazOn for the warm toned card, and Plum StazOn for the cool.
On my card base, I used Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz on the warm card, and London Fog Fireworks on the cool. Both of these add a touch of shimmer to the border. Before I mounted my top layer, I also sprinkled some Distress Embossing Glaze in various spots on the panel. I used Crackling Campfire and Salvaged Patina. Because I didn’t use VersaMark to help the powder to stick, I heat set the powder from the back.
I love how they both came out. There’s plenty of things to look at, but it’s not overwhelming. Which card do you prefer?
