Wild Tribal

Hello! Today I’ve got a mixed media card to share with you, that features the Wild Tribal stencil from A Colorful Life Designs. In addition, I used some cool dies from Tim Holtz and Sizzix. I love making collage-y mixed media cards, so this was really fun to put together.

I started off with a Gel Press monoprint of the Wild Tribal stencil. I had used fluid acrylic paints on it. The colors on the print were my jumping off point for the rest of the card. I cut the print down with my Tonic Deckle Trimmer. Then I started to play with various dies and Gel Press Prints. The Abstract Elements die set has so many fun little shapes in it. It’s fun to go through paper scraps and choose dies to go with them. I cut out a bunch of things and arranged them, but I needed another focal piece. I used the Queen Anne’s Lace die from the Tim Holtz Wildflowers die set, cut from grey cardstock.

I was building everything on a card base I had originally made in THIS VIDEO and I’m glad I got to use it instead of it sitting around in my stash for a while. To add more interest to it, I splattered Danube Blue Fireworks! Spray on it. For my sentiment, I chose “give yourself permission” from Tim Holtz’s Noteworthy set. It was stamped with Shady Lane VersaFine Clair Ink and then spritzed with Speckled Egg Distress Spray Stain. I also added a few details to some of the die cuts. Everything was glued down with either Bearly Arts glue or Collage Medium.

I use a lot of trial and error when I make a card like this, sometimes. It is often just made in a meditative way, but this time, I did a lot of experimenting with different dies and monoprints. Both ways work, I think it depends on where your head is at, at the time. I just did a lot of thinking for this card, but I really love how it turned out.
