Hello! You may have seen my previous posts using some of the new Neuro Doodles stencils from A Colorful Life Designs. Today, I am sharing a card that uses the Neuro Doodles Heart. I’m not into Valentine’s Day or super lovey-dovey things, so I decided to use this stencil in a different way. It looks to me like there’s a flashlight being held underneath it to create big shadows…and even though it’s pink/mauve…it’s kinda got a creepy vibe. I really want to make it again in reds and grays and black. But for now, let’s look at this one.

I found some really old patterned paper from K & Co. that I thought would work well, and then I inked the stencil on it using Malted Mauve VersaMagic Ink. I really wanted the hearts to stand out so I grabbed my PITT Pastel Pencils from Faber Castell and added shadows to the tops of the sections on each heart. I used Burnt Umber and Alizarin Crimson. Adding these deep shadows really makes it look like you can reach into the hearts. I also added some white highlights with my white Posca Pen.
I used a Deckle Edge die from Stampendous to trim down my panel. I thought I needed to add more depth, so inked the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink and a Cotton Tail Blending Brush. Then I decided to bring out the touches of green that are in the patterned paper, so I splattered some New Sprout Fireworks! Spray in the bottom left of the panel. You can see the shine in the photo above. I inked the card base with Worn Lipstick, which I splattered with water. My sentiment is from the new stamp set from A Colorful Life Designs, called Oodles, and I stamped it with VersaFine Clair Ink in Fallen Leaves.
I really love how this came out. Those shadows really get me. I have got to try this technique with the other Nero Doodles stencils. It doesn’t take long, but it’s really impactful.
