Doodle Wheels

Uncategorized

7 Dec

Greetings! My project today features the very cool Doodle Wheels stencil from A Colorful Life Designs. I love that the edges of this stencil are not attached to a border (so it’s really more like a mask) to give fun, organic edges to whatever you’re stenciling.

I have accumulated quite a stash of backgrounds from sessions when I just feel like playing with color, or I don’t have any mojo or ideas to speak of. I came across a background that I rolled the Berry Blaze Kaleidacolor Inks from Imagine on, and it was just what I needed for this stencil. This background is a second or third generation print, as the colors aren’t super vibrant, but that’s just what I needed.

I laid the stencil down and inked Villainous Potion Distress Ink on top of the entire panel. There is plenty of negative and positive space with this stencil that you can plainly see the pretty colors of the background, while still seeing the stenciled image itself. There’s a dark purple area on the panel, and I wanted to break it up a bit, so I used the Betting on You die from Simon Says Stamp and CZ Design. Unfortunately, this die doesn’t seem to be available anymore, so I can’t link it, but you can check out other dies from CZ Design HERE. I used a glossy purple cardstock and a vellum for the die set. I rounded the corners of my panel, and mounted it on to a white card base. I needed some sparkle, so I pulled out assorted purple and pink sequins from various Sparkle Blends from Doodles Paper Playground and added them to the card.

Even if I needed to make my background when I was creating this card, it wouldn’t have taken very long. Rolling some ink on to a brayer, and then stenciling on top is a quick and fun way to get some unique looks…especially because the colors and stencils can vary so greatly. Slap a sentiment on top and you’ve got a great card. I love how this one turned out. The Doodle Wheels stencil is fantastic because it can work for many people. Please head over to the A Colorful Life Designs store to see the hundreds of amazing stencils that are available.
