Hello! Today I am really excited to be a part of the Kindred Stamps and Sassy & Crafty Collaboration hop! The Design Teams have created adorable projects using Kindred’s Seas the Day stamp set, and Sassy & Crafty’s Salty but Sweet Stamp set. These sets go perfectly together, which you’ll see in the other projects created for this collab.
For my card, I colored each of the sweet characters from the 2 stamp sets with Copics. I didn’t really have a plan with my colors, or how the card would look in the end. I wanted to just “go with the flow…” See what I did there?
I fussy cut everyone out, and made sure to go over my edges with a black marker to hid the white. Then I needed to decide on my background. I really wasn’t sure what direction I wanted to go. I knew I didn’t want a busy “scene” as I really wanted these characters to stand out as much as possible. But I also wasn’t sure if I wanted to do something stenciled, or geometric, etc. So, I consulted my husband.
If you know me, you’ll know that consulting my husband isn’t odd. He’s got really great ideas, and knows a lot about the products in my craft room, and he enjoys crafting from time to time himself. He suggested I use alcohol inks to create a background, which I thought was a good idea. I looked through some backgrounds I had created previously, and found the one I wound up using on my card. I honestly don’t recall which colors I used, but I do know that I achieved that grainy/bubbly look by sprinkling kosher salt on to the background while it was still wet. I think it looks very much like the sea. I also cut a piece of Kraft cardstock, which I splattered on various inks so it would represent sand. My sentiment was stamped with StazOn.
I think having a simple background was perfect so that all of these characters would really be the stars of the show. And I am so happy I used an alcohol ink background with salt, because I think it emulates water nicely. Ready to see more? Please visit the Kindred Stamps Blog and the Sassy & Crafty Blog!
