Let it Snow

Uncategorized

19 Dec

Hello! This month, the Imagine Artists in residence are creating projects with the theme, “Let it Snow.” When I sat down to think about this project, I immediately knew I wanted to use Amplify in White. Amplify is a semi thick liquid color that when heated, puffs up with fantastic dimension and texture. It comes in a range of colors, and the white is just perfect or snow.

I started off by coloring my polar bear family with Memento markers, and I cut them out with the coordinating dies. Next, I created snow banks by cutting out two pieces of watercolor paper (I used watercolor paper because of it’s thickness). I applied the Amplify to one snow bank, heat set it, and then repeated this step with the second snow bank. You can see the fantastic texture the Amplify has in my photos here.

To create my sky, I used several colors of Fireworks! Spray. I was going for an aurora borealis in the sky, so I started by spraying New Sprout, Lilac Posies and Rose Bud sideways across my watercolor paper. I allowed the paper to get pretty saturated with color, and continued to spray the color sideways to get cut down on droplets and get a more watercolored effect. Then I went in and sprayed some Bahama Blue around the first 3 colors, and then completed the sky with Paris Dusk. I used my heat tool to speed up the drying time.

I used my Moonlight White Brilliance reinker to create snowfall (or stars, depending on your interpretation). I squeezed out a few drops of ink on to my craft mat and then used a brush to create the snow. At first I was tapping the brush, but I didn’t want a splatter effect, so I opted to just create dots with the brush itself.

The shimmer from the Fireworks! is just beautiful, especially in real life. I used foam squares to pop up the the bears and the snow banks for added dimension, and then adhered everything to a white card base. I love the wonder in the little bear’s eyes, and the effect created by the Fireworks! spray. I hope you will try to create a night sky like this one. Thank you for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!
