Hello! The Rule of Thirds is an important design concept, where you break an area up into 3 equal parts to create something pleasing to the eye. This works for paintings, drawings, cardmaking, etc. I used the Rule of Thirds today on my card, using the Cardmaker’s T-Square from Pear Blossom Press to help me get my measurements correct. I also used some products from Spellbinders.

I started by die cutting 2 leaves from the Spellbinders Large Die of the Month for September 2025. I cut the oak leaf once out of a golden yellow cardstock and once from brown. I die cut the birch leaves twice from orange, and twice from brown. I used a few Copic Markers (YR02, YR07, and YR23) to enhance the leaves a bit. Then, I adhered them together, offsetting the focal leaf with the brown cardstock.

Next, I chose a piece of patterned paper from the Autumn Archives Printed Paper Pad. I grabbed my T Square Ruler and located the pink dots on the ruler. Those indicate the thirds of the card. You can do this horizontally or vertically. I used one of the dots to show me where to cut my paper so that it would take up the bottom third of the card. Then, I placed my leaves, which took up the middle third. I left the top third open for “breathing room.” I also die cut my sentiment from the same brown cardstock I used earlier, and adhered that into the lower third, using my T-Square again to make sure thing were centered and level.

I love how clean and simple this design is, and how pleasing to the eye it is as well. I would have never gotten the placement correct without my Pear Blossom Press T-Square. I have a video about it HERE if you would like to learn what else it can do. Also, please visit Spellbinders to see the latest releases. Thanks for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!
